Discussion Episode 21: Abandoning Games Round-table

Posted in Discussions, Non-Actual Play, Round Table, RPG Only on July 25th, 2010 by Kevin Weiser

During our interview with Vincent Baker, he agreed to tell us about a secret project in exchange for a promise to have him back on to discuss the topic of abandoning games. With GenCon right around the corner, this seemed like a great time to hold up our end of the bargain. We grabbed two of Vincent’s good friends Joshua A.C. Newman and Robert Bohl to join us in this discussion since, well, none of us here at The Walking Eye have designed, let alone abandoned, a game before. Kevin moderated as these three discussed the different aspects of abandoning games: how difficult it can be, what you can learn from it, and how to know when to let an idea go.

Posted in Discussions, Forge Midwest 2009, Non-Actual Play, RPG Only on May 8th, 2009 by Kevin Weiser

Before our third session of 3:16: Carnage Amongst the Stars, Jen and Kevin regale the rest of the group with their experiences at Forge Midwest 2009. We met a lot of cool people and played a lot of great games. This episode has a fair amount of info about a few of the games we got a chance to play: Zombie Cinema, Prime Time Adventures, Sorcerer, and Mouse Guard. If you’re a little curious about how those games play out, this might be helpful.

The Walking Eye Interview 2: Robert Bohl

Posted in Interview, Misspent Youth, Non-Actual Play, RPG Only on March 14th, 2009 by Kevin Weiser

Our exploration of Misspent Youth comes to a close as we sit down to discuss the game with it’s designer Rob Bohl. We learned a lot from playing MY and had a great time talking about it with Rob. The conversation meanders through a variety of topics, from a basic overview of the game, to difficulties we had, changes that will be in the final version, and a very entertaining debate between Brandon and Rob about the role of The Authority. We extend our thanks to Rob for  giving us the opportunity to play his game and discuss it with us.
